James McDonough self published his first novel in January 2022.
Originally from Kansas and now a resident of Oklahoma, since 1979, he has traveled extensively throughout the Western Plains and explored many of the historic locations scattered across them. James developed a life long fascination with what life must have really been like during those decades as the frontier continued to expand. “A DISTANT RIDGE” is focused on the turbulent decade of the 1870s which ushered in the subjugation of the last remaining tribes of roaming Native Americans as they pursued their traditional nomadic existence.

Originally intent on a History Major, his college years were interrupted by service in the US Army. He served in the 3rd Armor Division, in West Germany, as a tank commander during the Cold War of the early 70s. Afterwards, James chose to forgo pursuing a History degree in favor of a business career. He retired after a successful run of over 40 years in the Material Handling Equipment Industry.
James has an extensive library consisting of many volumes on US history, the Civil War, the Indian Wars, and the Old West. His hobbies include traveling, reading, fishing, boats, long range target shooting, and tinkering on an 1963 Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe. He is currently working on his next novel, “A TAINTED VISTA”, which is set in the Indian Territory during the decades of the 1880s & 90s.

He and his wife Sharon enjoy living on Fort Gibson Lake, in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
